About the Project:

The Chinatown Chow Down is a City of Edmonton Chinatown Vibrancy project organized by local community builder Linda Hoang (@lindork), that offers three culinary experiences the community is invited to participate in. Each experience makes it easier to visit and explore the neighbourhood, support local Chinatown businesses, and celebrate the importance of Chinatowns.

The Chinatown Chow Down runs Dec 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, and is an initiative aimed at bringing in new and returning visitors to Chinatown, increasing vibrancy and visitation in the community!

About the Organizer:

Linda Hoang is a popular Edmonton ᐊᒥᐢᑿᒌᐚᐢᑲᐦᐃᑲᐣ (amiskwacîwâskahikan)-based social media strategist, content creator and community builder. Linda grew up spending most of her time in Chinatown, where her parents have run their restaurant King Noodle House Pho Hoang, for nearly 30 years. Today she finds herself in Chinatown weekly, working and enjoying the many restaurants in the area.

Linda is the founder of the Edmonton International Cat Festival, Alberta’s largest celebration of cats that raises money to support cat rescues, co-founder of Stop Race Based Hate, an online anti-racism education tool, and regularly works with local business associations and cities on tourism projects including food and art tours. Over the years she has hosted many food-focused activities in Edmonton’s Chinatown and uses her platform to promote the small business owners in the neighbourhood.

Linda received the inaugural Edmonton Best Tourism Influencer Award in 2024, was part of Edify Edmonton's Top 40 Under 40 Class of 2021, and received the Spirit of NAIT Award in 2019, all in part for her work using social media and her blog to share about and advocate for local businesses, food, art, and more.

She is excited to spearhead the Chinatown Chow Down and help increase vibrancy and visitation to support the incredible local business owners in the neighbhourhood!
